Josephine A. Andrews, 80, of Columbus formerly of Lakeview, passed away Thursday, September 16, 2010, at 3:32 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel West Hospital, Columbus. She was born in Lakeview on October 2, 1929, a daughter of the late Joseph and Margie Schick McKinnon. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jack and Louis McKinnon. She was a homemaker and a member of the Quilt Club of Lima and the Hilltonia United Methodist Church, Columbus. She enjoyed knitting, genealogy and fishing. She is survived by a daughter, Margie (Tim) Rash of Columbus; a son, Larry (Darlene) Joliff of Lima; a step-daughter, Karen (Steven) Cook of Lima; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pastor Karen Cook conducts a funeral at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at the Myron Van Horn Chapel of Smith-Eichholtz Funeral Home, Lakeview where friends may call Monday from 6–8 p.m. Burial will take place at Huntsville Cemetery. John Phillip Scherer, 68, of Sidney and formerly of DeGraff, died at 3:25 PM Sunday, September 19, 2010, at Lima Memorial Hospital. He was born in DeGraff on December 8, 1941, a son of the late Raymond E. and Glendora Bates Scherer. Also preceding him in death were a son, Jeffry Lynn Scherer; a brother, Eugene Scherer; two sisters, Mable Kachele and Betty Dressback. Survivors include a son, Raymond M. Scherer of DeGraff; a sister, Christine Garrett of Sidney, two grandchildren, Cassie Fox of Columbus and Colt Scherer of DeGraff and several nieces and nephews. He graduated from Rosewood High School, and operated Shady Bowl Speedway for his mother for several years. He was a farmer and self employed laborer. He attended the DeGraff United Methodist Church. The Rev. Carolyn Christman conducts a graveside service on Friday, September 24, 2010 in the Greenwood-Union Cemetery, DeGraff. Barbara E. Benge, 63, of West Liberty, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2010, at her home. Her husband, Richard Benge, Jr., and granddaughter, Alexis were at her side. She was born April 14, 1947, in Bellefontaine, Ohio, a daughter of Hazel and Ralph Cordrey. On November 18, 1967, she married Richard Benge, Jr. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph E. Cordrey, daughter-in-law, Babette Benge, and a niece, Carrie Cordrey. Survivors include her husband, Richard Benge, Jr. of West Liberty; two children: Robert A. Benge and Kathleen M. Benge of Bellefontaine; granddaughter Alexis A. Benge of Bellefontaine; mother, Hazel Cordrey of Springfield; one brother, Paul E. Cordrey of Urbana; two sisters: June (Larry) Crawford of Dayton and Patricia A. Frazee of Springfield. She is also survived by brother-in-law Randy (Mary) Benge of North Lewisburg; sister-in-law Alice (Cap) Lumetta of Belleville, Michigan; sister-in-law Becky Benge of Jackson, Michigan; and sister-in-law Jane (Vince) Cecil of Richmond, Kentucky; and eight nieces and nephews and five great-nieces and nephews. Barbara was currently employed by RTC Industries in Bellefontaine, Ohio. She has been previously employed at various businesses in Champaign and Logan counties. She attended the First Presbyterian Church of Urbana, Ohio. Her family was very important to her. She loved spending time with her granddaughter. She was also an avid Scrabble player and an avid reader. A Memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday Oct 9, at Jennings Farley Funeral Home 5591 US Route 68 South West Liberty. A luncheon will be held following the service in the Funeral Home Cafe Reception Area. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Sylvia M. Bailey, 71, of West Liberty, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 the result of an automobile accident on St. Rt. 68. She was born on January 23, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri to the late George J. and Emma McGuire Jones. She is also preceded in death by brothers, Luther and Russell Jones and sisters, Alta Mae Elledge, Betty Jean Jones and Ruby L. King. On October 26, 1957 she married Raymond Russell Bailey in Vincennes, IN and he preceded her in death on August 15, 2009. Survivors include sons, Russell L. (Tamie) Bailey of High Point, NC, Robert Bailey and Ronald (Louise) Bailey both of Kenton; 9 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; a brother, Harvey (Clarisse) Jones, Rodeo, California; sisters, Loretta (Herbert) Roach of Odon, Indiana and Darlene (Dwayne) Buck of Brimington, Washington; sister-in-law, Ruby Jones and several nieces and nephews. She was a homemaker and previously worked at Westinghouse Company and was co-owner of Heavenly Creations. She was a member of Gretna Brethren Church and enjoyed crocheting, genealogy and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, September 10 from 5 to 8 pm at the Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine where Pastor Larry Brown will conduct a funeral service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Burial will follow in the Greenwood-Union Cemetery in DeGraff. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gretna Brethren Church, 1564 Road 46 South, Bellefontaine, OH 43311.
