Editor’s note: The following was compiled from the West Liberty-Salem Board of Education regular meeting minutes from Aug. 21.

WEST LIBERTY – Substitute pay for teachers and other district employees was set by the West Liberty-Salem Board of Education during its Aug. 21 meeting.

Following the recommendation of Superintendent Kraig Hissong and Treasurer Steve Godwin, the board approved the rate for substitute teach pay as $85 per day for the first 26 days of service during the 2012-2013 school year. It was noted that upon the completion of the 26th day, the sub rate then jumps to $105 a day. These rates are the same as the 2011-2012 school year.

As for other hourly substitutes, the BOE approved the following hourly rates, which are the same as last school year: Sub cooks ($8.70), sub custodians ($10.36), sub aides ($9.57), sub secretaries ($9.57) and sub bus drivers ($15.15).

In other business, the board:

•Agreed to increase the hours of Emily Jurich, elementary intervention specialist, from 3.5 hours per day to 7.3 hours (full-time) for the 2012-2013 school year due to an increase in special education students

•Approved the yearly tuition rate as set by the state in the amount of $3,845.07 per student, which is up from last year’s rate of $3,655.51

•Accepted the resignations of bus drivers Angela Godwin and Christie Markin, both of whom citied personal reasons for their resignations

•Approved the hiring of Leslie Gallager Kelly and Corkey Detwiler as full-time bus drivers (three hours a day) for the current school

•Agreed to add Angela Godwin and Wes Krabill to the list of sub bus drivers for the 2012-2013 school year

•Approved the following individuals as sub paraprofessionals for the 2012-2013 school year: Kim Adams, Shawn Wolfe, Jenny Downing, Denise Painter, Peggy Hormann, Erica Alspaugh, Jean Frantz, Margaret Kite, Tracie Payer, Starlett McBean, Julie Markin, Crista Shoemaker, Steve McCullough, Mark Smith, Amy Pawelko and Chris Grooms (part-time in cafeteria)

•Approved the following individuals as sub secretaries for the current school year: Kim Adams, Peggy Hormann, Crista Shoemaker, Amy Pawelko and Jill Hoffman (part-time in cafeteria)
