Editor’s note: The following was compiled from the Huntsville Village Council regular meeting minutes from Aug. 14.
HUNTSVILLE – Mayor William Jenkins brought to council’s attention a growing trend in which village residents are failing to file the proper paperwork when it comes to making improvements to their residences.
Jenkins said during council’s Aug. 14 meeting that several residents have been doing construction on their residences without first filing for a zoning permit. Prior to any construction within village limits, Jenkins said residents must speak with Tim Jenkins about a zoning permit. He can be reached by calling 686-4300.
Also during the meeting, council was informed the village has been contacted in regard to allowing the park to be used for various tournaments. It was discussed whether or not to charge for use of the park for tournaments and whether a set of rules should be laid out for all users to abide by such as cleaning up after the tournament.
Council elected to table the matter for a future meeting.
In other business:
•Tim Jenkins, street superintendent, informed council the village’s mower recently broke down again. In response, William Jenkins told council to think about putting money aside in the budget to replace the mower next year.
•Council discussed the possibility of typing up a letter to be sent to new residents of the village stating some of the ordinances as well as information on the 1 percent village income tax, zoning permits and garage sale permits.
•Council passed a motion approving James T. Brown and Nicholas S. Mickley as volunteer firefighters.
