Accounting change Back in 1999, the school district began preparing its annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, a widely accepted set of rules, conventions standards and procedures for reporting financial information. After researching the cost of GAAP, the board found the cost of preparing financial statements using GAAP “significantly exceeds the cost of non-GAAP financial statements. In light of the findings, the board decided to use non-GAAP financial statements through OCBOA or Other Comprehensive Basis of Accounting beginning on June 31. According to the district, the statements will cost 58 percent less to prepare using OCBOA instead of GAAP.
